With a local gang of rude boys, i'm planning to shoot a short film

not worrying about disciplining them, i'm wondering if this here tactic will get me a natural, realist-style movie.

after telling them there are certain things to reference, i just let them get stoned and talk, do the normal things rude boys do...then, when they say the pivotal lines, i re-shoot, and cut in on those lines. also, if they say anything good or funny, i re-shoot that in close-up and cut it together

they're good friends, so i know i can rely on 'em, but would it work in general...think of it like chris guest and mckean and those lot, but without the comedy genius!

There's a story on Bruce Campbell's commentary on The Evil Dead where in the script, the characters were meant to be sitting around smoking weed. Deciding to go a bit method, the whole cast got high and they unded up with a night's worth of unusable footage.

Some of my mates and I got together one evening, thought of a character to be that evening and decided to talk while playing a card game. I thought this idea was nice, and I would write down the cool things that came out of character.

We ended up just talking about sex and drinking some beers. Shit like that doesn't work if you don't have a plan or script, so I've seen.

Its worth a try, but only if you have a free night to do it, if not dont bother because i dont think it will work. No matter how natural you tell people to be in front of a camera they never ever are.

Also, nowadays, with editing software on computers, is it fairly easy to create effects, i.e a morphing effect. After deciding which scene to shoot first (with only one person, my best friend, to, ahem, 'break him in' so-to-speak and build up my own confidence) I've discovered what I need.

These things are:

A purple hallogen light (or a light with purple tissue paper on it)

A god editing software with a morphing-style effect available

Any idea what kind of money I'm looking at for each.
